¡VivaFest! 2012 Announces Inaugural Comedy Night Benefit on June 1, 2012

San José, CA ¡VivaFest! The 21st Annual San José Mexican Heritage and Mariachi Festival, in partnership with the Alum Rock Community Advisory Committee and San Jose Parks Foundation, announces the honorees and the performers for a collaborative benefit on June 1st that will recognize contributions to arts education and youth recreation with an evening of comedy.

Being recognized for their contributions to arts and education are California State Assembly member Nora Campos and Jason Rodriguez, Community Relations Manager of Government and Public Affairs of Hewlett Packard.

The Evening of Comedy Benefit on June 1 at HP Pavilion at 7 PM, will include uproarious comedic performances by a diverse lineup of stand up comics: Carlos Oscar, Mike E. Winfield, Kabir Singh and Butch Escobar.

The Evening of Comedy and fund-raiser will benefit the educational programs of the Mariachi Festival and Mexican Heritage Corporation as well as the youth recreational programs of the San Jose Parks Foundation.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Alum Rock Community Advisory Committee in support of youth programs in east San Jose and with the San Jose Parks Foundation to present what has become an institution in San Jose – the annual comedy benefit to support San Jose youth,” said Marcela Davison Aviles, President and CEO of Mexican Heritage Corporation.

The Line Up for An Evening of Comedy:

Carlos Oscar is the Carnival Cruise Entertainer of the Decade and the headliner for this evening. A funny, yet clean Latino comedian, his stories about everyday life befit a crossover comedy routine that has mass appeal and has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and on Comedy Central.

Says comedian Bill Crosby, “the only four-letter words you’ll hear from Carlos are ‘Wife,’ ‘Kids,’ ‘Debt!’ and ‘Help!’ And Carlos’ observations about his Latino family are so universal that you’ll consider yourself one of them. I know I do.” Mike E. Winfield has appeared on HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central. Since his debut on The Late Show with David Letterman, and a recurring role on The Office, Mike E. now resides in Sacramento. His charming and charismatic wit will make fun of what is happening in YOUR life. Sacramento? Now that is funny! Kabir Singh is the 2009 winner of the Rooster T. Feathers Bay Area Stand Up Comedy Competition and the 2010 Winner of the San Jose Improv Bay Area Stand Up Comedy Competition.  In his portfolio of appearances are the Improv, Comedy Central, and HBO. One of the fastest rising comics in California, he has played in Northern California comedy clubs, and toured nationally. Butch Escobar has appeared at the Improv. His take on the diversity of San Jose is classic local comedy and he performs in stand up clubs in Northern California. As a San Jose native, he will lampoon all things known to San Joseans.

“Who knows? You may see a local arts Executive Director sacrificed on the altar of good natured parody that night – definitely worth the price of admission,” added Davison Aviles. Tickets for this event are $50 each and available by calling Mayfair Community Center at 408 794-1060 or the San Jose Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Department (PRNS) at 408 535-3570 and mention  ‘Evening of Comedy.’ Corporate sponsorships and credit card purchases are also available by calling Monica Ramos 408 920-6073.
