If your parents’ record collection was like my parents’, alongside their Vicente Fernández and Mijares LPs was a well-worn movie musical soundtrack titled My Fair Lady. Before the mega hits of Phantom and Hamilton, My Fair Lady was an international stage and film sensation, the latter starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. So popular was this property that for the Spanish-speaking market Warner Studios fully dubbed it (including songs!) into the box office blockbuster titled Mi Bella Dama.

Although the film which garnered 12 Academy Awards is exquisite there is still nothing quite like seeing this elegant battle of the sexes live on stage. And you can do so from January 11th thru 23rd of 2022 at The Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA.

This much-heralded national tour of Lerner and Lowe’s musical masterpiece features two of the season’s most thrilling performances in the characters of the indomitable flower girl, Liza Doolittle (played to perfection by Shereen Ahmed) and her hilariously ne'er-do-well Cockney father, Alfred P. Doolittle (performed with inebriated panache by Adam Grupper). Those two performances alone are worth the price of admission – but adding the full orchestra, glorious costumes, dazzling two-story turntable set and the timeless score with the songs, “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “On the Street Where You Live," "The Rain in Spain" and “I Could Have Danced All Night”– makes seeing this My Fair Lady the perfect play to start the new year. I loved it – I could have watched it all night!
