The Holidays are not over after New Year. In Mexico, Spain, and some parts of Latin America the end of the holidays is the Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings Day) usually celebrated on January 6. Segerstrom Center for the Arts has announced their celebration of Día de los Reyes will be a free event on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
For many countries around the world, the Day of the Kings on January 6 is the high point of the Christmas holiday. This celebration, also known as the “Epiphany” stems from the story of the kings – Melchor, Gaspar, and Balthasar – who traveled from the Far East following a star that brought them to Jesus in Bethlehem.
It is the culmination of the winter holiday season and this ancient and beloved cultural tradition will be honored with lively music and entertainment. An afternoon celebration with live performances from local groups and entertainment for the whole family. Guests will get a chance to meet Los Reyes Magos, learn about Dia de los Reyes traditions around the world, snap a family picture at our photo op, and try Rosca de Reyes* (Kings’ Cake). Kids will especially enjoy craft activities, storytelling, and fun prizes.
The celebration is Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Plaza from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The event is free But you must RSVP at scfta.org.
