Los Angeles, CA– The Autry National Center celebrates Latino arts and culture with family-friendly activities the second Sunday of every month. Latino Arts and Culture Family Day now joins two other Sunday Family Days: American Indian Culture Family Day held every first Sunday of the month and Western Heritage Family Day held every third Sunday.
To kick off Latino Arts and Culture Family Day on March 11, the Autry will celebrate the legacy of United Farm Workers founder Cesar Chavez in honor of what would have been his 85th birthday on March 31. The afternoon will feature a film and family activity. As a civil rights and labor leader, Chavez and the union sought recognition of the importance and dignity of all farm workers. Chavez made people aware of the struggles for better pay and safer working conditions through nonviolent tactics such as boycotts, pickets, and strikes.
Special free screenings of The Harvest/La Cosecha will take place 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The film documents children who tirelessly labor as migrant farm workers to help their families survive and feed America. Crafts relating to Chavez’s mission will take place in the afternoon and will include decorating plant holders and planting “seeds of hope” in memory of Chavez for children and their families to take home.

American Indian Culture Family Day – First Sunday of the Month
Every first Sunday of the month, the Autry celebrates American Indian culture with stories from American Indian authors and illustrators, special docent-led family tours, live American Indian music, and a special American Indian cultural presentation from John Bradley (Comanche/Cherokee), a nationally recognized artist in basketry and traditional arts.
Western Heritage Family Day – Third Sunday of the Month
Bring the whole family to the Autry for a day filled with engaging activities that help your children explore the stories of the diverse people of the American West.
