Sundance Hosts 1st Documentary ShortsLab in L.A.

Los Angeles, CA — The Sundance Institute will hold its first day-long ShortsLab focusing on short-form documentary, taking place on September 13 at the Cinefamily 611 North Fairfax Ave. LA 323-655-2510., and is offering filmmakers in LA the opportunity to participate.  ShortsLab L.A. is an intensive one-day seminar of screenings and discussions with firsthand insight and access into the world of short-form documentary story development, production and exhibition.

Among the featured speakers are filmmakers Rodney Ascher (Room 237), Academy Award nominee  Kirby Dick (The Invisible War), Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles), AJ Schnack (Kurt Cobain: About a Son) and Academy Award nominee Lucy Walker (The Crash Reel), as well as Tabitha Jackson (Director, Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program) and programmers from the Sundance Film Festival.

Sundance Institute has long supported the creation and exhibition of short films. A record 8,161 short films were submitted for consideration for the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Among the Sundance Institute alumni documentarians who work in the short form are Lauren Greenfield, Albert Maysles, Ondi Timoner, Monika Treut, Ava DuVernay, Errol Morris, Werner Herzog, Sam Green, Godfrey Reggio and Steve James.
