Marlene Forte Recognized for the HOLA Award of Excellence in Television


At the 13th Annual Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) Awards Gala

New York, NY – The Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA), the nation’s longest running active arts advocacy organization for Latino actors, will honor actress, Marlene Forte, with a HOLA Award for Excellence in Television at its 13th Annual HOLA Awards Gala and Benefit. It will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Waterfront Battery Gardens inside New York City’s Battery Park.

The Hola Award for “Excellence in Television” is awarded to those whose work in the medium of television best exemplifies the Hispanic image for a viewing audience and has helped positively broaden the nation’s understanding of the Latino community.

In recent years, the HOLA Awards has singled out and honored leading Latino artists such as Antonio Banderas, Alfred Molino, Rosie Perez, Benjamin Pratt, Esai Morales, John Leguizamo and Lauren Velez. Marlene Forte will now join this list of groundbreaking achievers.

Forte currently co-stars as a regular on the TNT television re-launch of the iconic 80s series, Dallas, which premiered back in Wednesday, June 13 to 7 million viewers-the biggest premiere so far this year for any networks.

The Cuban-born/New Jersey raised actress, who had recurring roles on Crossing Jordan and House of Payne, and whose film appearances include the transporter chief in the 2009 JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot and Mrs. Glass in Real Women Have Curves, is also joining the cast of the ABC Family hit TV show, The Secret Life of The American Teenager, as a guest starring role playing Maritza, Kathy’s (Cierra Ramirez) young grandmother.

On the big screen, Forte will soon be seen in Marlon Wayans directorial debut called Smart Ass– a spoof of horror films such as Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside. Mike Tiddes is co-directing the new film with Wayans, who also stars in it with Essence Atkins (Are We There Yet?) and Cedric the Entertainer. Due out in theaters winter 2012, Forte steps into the shoes of Marlon’s personal housekeeper who lives a double life.

Far from being a flash in the pan, Marlene Forte’s rise to fame steadily continues cementing her status as an enduring talent.

More than an actress, Marlene is a “working” actress who has proven Hollywood wrong breaking every rule in the book! When Marlene turned 30, she decided to become an actress. That’s a late start for most occupations; in Hollywood it’s nearly unheard of. Yet, Forte has carved for herself a successful if unlikely career.  She has done it all: she has experienced motherhood, owned a business (video store) and lived a full life before setting foot on a stage. Now with an acting career spanning over three decades, Forte is enjoying a hell of ride carrying an acting dossier that may very well rival some of the most prominent Latinas in the industry.
