(L-R) Council members Curren D. Price & Gil Cedillo, Monica Rodriguez, L.A. Public Works VP a& Fr. Gregory Boyle

With so many events happening citywide in Los Angeles during Latino Heritage Month, do yourself a favor and buy yourself a TAP card and do the “Metro Crawl”.  That was the message  L.A. City Council member Gil Cedillo (District 1) and Curren D. Price (Dirstrict 9), Homeboy Industries Founder Father Gregory Boyle and Monica Rodriguez VP of L.A. Board of Public Works had for L.A. residents at the press conference held at Homegirl Cafe in downtown L.A. last week.

Although Latino Heritage Month officially begins on September 16th and runs through October 16th, the city Metro Crawl runs for the full months of September and October.  Not only will it alleviate congestion and offer merchant discount for business that are easily accessible off the metro, but as Council member Cedillo put it, as he pulled out his own TAP card, “By rewarding Metro bus and rail patrons with discounts, we’re encouraging Angelenos explore new neighborhoods and small business.”

The festivities during Latino Heritage Month are happening all over the city.  From the official Latino Heritage Month kick off celebration, to concerts, Dodger games, to the  Bailamos L.A. – Let’s Dance event, and the Latinos in Hollywood exhibit, you can get there easily while saving time, gas and money with the discounts offered by the TAP card from the business participating in the Metro Crawl.  For updates on the events and business participating check out the Latino Heritage LA Website.

Samples from Tokyo Delve’s Sushi Bar in North Hollywood

Some of the participating businesses were at the Homegirl Cafe sampling their wares:  Mario Mira owner of Tokyo Delve’s Sushi Bar in North Hollywood; Petra Wright of Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts Gallery in downtown L.A. and Ferris Wehbe of Next Door Lounge in Hollywood.  This time around the business came to give our samples but as they engaged the crowd in attendance some where already picking up their info with a promise for a visit — and hey they already had their TAP card!
