HPRA-LA Honored Latino Media Leaders at “Voices of Courage” Premio Awards & Scholar

Leading Hispanic PR Event Recognized Those who use their platform to educate and Uplift the Latino Community  #PRemio2018


Set under the stars on a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles, the Hispanic Public Relations Association, Los Angeles Chapter (HPRA-LA), hosted their event, “Voices of Courage” Premio Awards and Scholarship night on Thursday, Sept. 13, with an awards ceremony and recognizing a national organization, an actress from Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, and a Pulitzer prize-winning Hispanic journalist, all who are using their platforms to educate and uplift the Latino community.

Recipients of the new “Voices of Courage PRemio Awards” include the NALEO Educational Fund, actress Jackie Cruz, and Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Esmeralda Bermudez.

Hosted byUnivision Radio Personality Donaji, the L.A. GRAN Mixer: PRemio Awards & Scholarship Night is expected to bring out more than 150 public relations, marketing and media professionals and influencers.

“We’re excited to be able to bring sounds and flavors of our community on a night that highlights Latino professionals and media in Los Angeles,” said HPRA-LA President Stephen Chavez, CEO of ChavezPR and founder of LatinoFoodie. “HPRA-LA will proudly celebrate those individuals and organizations who are advocating on behalf of the Latino community, whether it be for immigration rights, LGBTQ rights, bilingualism or naturalization.”

This year’s scholarship recipients include:

  1. Arturo Gomez Molina, University of La Verne

  2. Eve Moreno-Luz, University of California, San Diego

  3. Irma Guardado, University of San Francisco

The rooftop buzzed with a live musical performance from Latin alternative group MITRE, DJ AO, and culinary tastings from top local and celebrity chefs, such as Chopped Champion Chef Katsuji Tanabe from NIXON Whisky & Chops Restaurant in Whittier, Chef Natalie Curie from El Coraloense Restaurant in Bell Gardens, Chefs Hugo Molina and Aricia Alvarado from Genovese’s Italian Restaurant and Alchemy Kitchen, Casa Rubio Catering, and Chef Turok from Mascarpone Cheesecake.
