At a time when the fight for gentrification has heated up around the Boyle Height community, just east of downtown LA, this documentary takes a look at the history of the now mostly Mexican neighborhood in a prior time. Discover how freeways impact the working-class and immigrant communities of Boyle Heights and take part in a conversation on why this matters. The documentary tells the story of how this neighborhood found its political voice in its fight against the largest freeway interchange system in the nation and it explores how freeways – a symbol ofLos Angeles ingrained in America’s popular imagination – impact Boyle Heights’ residents. East LA Interchange presents a complex picture of issues Boyle Heights’ residents have faced through the years such as access to education, gang violence, immigration policies, environmental pollution and gentrification.
Guest Speaker: Betsy Kalin, producer, director, and writer of East LA Interchange.
