The Latina Christmas Special

3 Hilarious Stories of Navidades with the Family

Presented in CHOLA-VISION and in 3-D (as in Divas of Comedy)

SandraVallsChola.XmasShow

You thought your Holidays with the family were dramatic?  Callete la boca!*

Try these three hilarious, touching and surprisingly personal Christmas stories of holidays past told in one-woman show format by Latina comedians, Sandra Valls, Diana Yanez and Maria Russell.  These independent funny ladies have put together a show that is sure to become a holiday tradition for many Los Angelinos. Valls, a Mexican America from Laredo, Texas – Yanez, a Cuban American from Miami – and Russell, the daughter of an over-dedicated Mexican mother and compliant Lithuanian father share their sassy tales of the season as first generation Americans.  A treat for adults of all ages as well as some youngins who don’t mind the occasional strong language.  In today’s climate of diversity and the Hispanic situation, these powerful storytellers bring an enticing element of truth to their performances that is at once refreshing, real, and uniquely American with picante sauce.

Each share their own quirky Christmas experiences of growing up in Latino families within their American homes that will brighten your holiday as well as fill you up with laughter, cheer and love of the immigrant situation.

As experienced comedians, all three have adapted their funny to this theatrical format and are thrilled to present it to audiences for 4 shows only before the 2013 Holiday Season.  “Anyone can appreciate this show.  If you’ve ever had holidays with family, trust me, you can relate..” ” says Diana Yanez (2010 New York International Fringe Festival winner Overall Excellence Award and Margaret Cho’s Sensuous Woman Show).

* “Calle te la boca!” English: “Shut up!”

“The funny thing is: We’re all fans of each other’s work too,” says Valls (Showtime’s The Latin Divas of Comedy – ALMA Award Nominee) and One Night Stand Up, (Logo Network),  “Even if I wasn’t in this show, I would want to go.”

Valls hosted and co-produced The Drama Queens Competition (2009) in which Yanez’s show Viva La Evolución! won the top prize.  “That year when Diana won, I started thinking about what an excellent form of performance the one-person show is,” Valls recounted.  “It’s not just funny, it’s poignant and that message is particularly important today.”

Maria Russell (Suburgatory), who is currently filming her second season with Howie Mandel’s: Deal With It, is equally as excited.  “These are the stories I have told over and over again much to the cheers of friends and family.  It’s such a natural progression to share it with an audience. I’m super excited!  …And I think my mom is going to make her homemade Christmas Tamales one night for the audience!”

Start a new tradition this year with a completely untraditional Holiday show that is as touching as it is hilarious.

Warning: Some strong language but families are welcome!
