“The Blade of Jealousy” Henry Ong’s Adaptation Opens June 24th

World Premiere June 24th, 7:00 PM at the Whitfire Theatre

Los Angeles – Henry Ong’s world premiere of The Blade of Jealousy, is a modern-day adaptation of Spanish Renaissance Playwright Tirso de Molina’s madcap comedy, “La Celosa De Si Misma” (Jealous of Herself), opens on Sunday June 24th, 7PM at The Whittier Theatre, and runs Sundays through August 26, 2018.

The Blade of Jealousy is about when the dashing Melchor moves to Los Angeles to meet his online dating connection but unexpectedly falls in love with a mysterious veiled lady named Magdalena, and she with him. He later meets her sans veil but is unimpressed, thus igniting Magdalena’s jealousy—of herself! A farcical amalgam of disguise and deception ensues.

Directed by Denise Blasor (Ghosts of Late Bravo; House of Bernarda Alba; Marisol; Wild in Wichita; No Exit), produced by The Whitefire Theatre & Artists Against Oppression. Original Music and Sound Design by Longo Chu.

Adapted by internationally produced Los Angeles playwright, Henry Ong (Madame Moo’s Memories; Sweet Karma; Fabric; Ascent) from Tirso de Molina’s La Celosa De Si Misma, originally translated in English by Harley Edman.  Cast: Natalie Amenula, Cynthia Dane, Juan Haro, Eddie Mui, Carla Valina, and Terry Woodberry. Musician/Composer: Longo Chu

This crazy comedy was originally commissioned by Playwrights’ Arena (PA) for the Golden Tongues series, a PA-partnership with UCLA William Andrews Clark Memorial Library which aims to introduce audiences to the treasures of the Golden Age of Spanish theater.

The Blade of Jealousy runs every Sunday, starting June 24th to August 26, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $25—CLICK HERE for more ticket purchase or more info.  Whitfire Theatre — June 24th, 7:00 PM, NoHo Arts District, 13500 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
