Telemundo 40, The Most Watched Local Newscast in Any Language

Noticias Telemundo 40 at 10 PM outranked all market competitors among two key demo groups  for the first time in station’s history

McAllen, TX – Telemundo’s local television station serving the Spanish-speaking community throughout South Texas’s Rio Grande Valley announced that its local weekday newscast, Noticias Telemundo 40, at 10 PM was the market’s most-watched late local newscast, in any language among Adults 18 to 49 and Adults 25 to 54 during the February 2016 Sweep Period. This is the first time that Telemundo 40’s 10 PM Monday to Friday newscast led the market as the most-watched late local news program, regardless of language and in two key demographic groups – Adults 18 to 49 and Adults 25 to 54.

Throughout the month of February 2016, Telemundo 40 offered viewers various local news specials, including live coverage from Mexico as Pope Francis arrived in that country for the first time. Telemundo 40’s News anchor Dalila Garza reported live from Mexico as the Holy Father embarked on one of the most important national tours of his papacy. From on-air to online, to its digital and social channels, Telemundo 40 helped viewers all across the Rio Grande Valley stay up-to-date with Pope Francis’ visit to Mexico and provided important information to families with college-bound students.

Specifically, Noticias Telemundo 40 at 10 PM (Monday to Friday) averaged a 6.7 rating among Adults 18 to 49 and a 7.4 rating among Adults 25 to 54. Telemundo 40 is located in the McAllen-Brownsville-Harlingen market where rating data is available via Nielsen’s diary-based system.

Telemundo 40 has expanded live news coverage with a weekday half-hour local newscast at 4:30 PM and resumed local programming of two half-hour weekday newscasts at 5 PM and 10 PM and two half-hour weekend newscasts at 4:30 PM and 10 PM. To support the boost in local news, the station has also hired newsroom staff, including news anchors, reporters and producers. Moreover, Telemundo 40 has rolled out new on-screen graphics and unveiled newly redesigned digital platforms, which include an enhanced weather experience, up-to-the-minute severe weather push alerts and a new easy to access “Breaking News” bar on its desktop, mobile and app platforms, to help viewers stay ahead of the news when they are on-the-go.
