With 4 Grammy and 1 Latin Grammy Noms this Sets the Stage as They Begin Work on their 9th Album
Multicultural and multifaceted Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea celebrate their 2013 Grammy nomination in the category of Best Regional Mexican Music Album (including Tejano) for their 8th album, Oye, marking their fourth Grammy nomination, including one Latin GRAMMY nomination. Founded in 1999 by Cindy Shea, the all female mariachi ensemble is a unique group of women imbued with the true flavor of Los Angeles and the diversity of music and talent found in this city.
“Music is universal and has been a way of uniting our cultural backgrounds through the expression of mariachi music,” stated Cindy Shea, trumpet player and founder of Mariachi Divas. The group has been represented by women from many different backgrounds, from Japanese, Samoan and Argentinean to Colombian, Cuban and Guatemalan.
The Mariachi Divas’ Grammy nominated album, Oye, includes fourteen original recordings including “Ay Mi Mexico” – nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2012 – and a special tribute to Whitney Houston with the song “I Will Always Love You.” Their most recent Grammy Award was in 2009 for Best Regional Mexican Album of the year for their release of Canciones De Amor. This marked the first time in the history of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences that an all female mariachi group was nominated and won.
