Let Actors Act!: Actors’ Public Service Announcement
“Actors get cast because of who they look like not because of who they are. Period.”
Recently acting teacher Leslie Kahn encouraged a student to sell herself as a Latina in order to get work in Hollywood. The audio went viral and all hell broke loose – Common Sense Mamita lays it all out as it truly is and whether you like or not, it is the truth!
“Cameron Diaz is a Latina but she will never be cast as one because she doesn’t look like a Latina.“
The most important Common Sense Mamita public service announcement for Latino actors.
Actors spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to train to be able to play many characters. But the minute actors try to expand their range, people try restricting them to one thing. As actors of color, instead of fighting because some actors get to play parts that are not their ethnic origin, we should be fighting to give freedom for all actors to play any character that fits their range, regardless of age, sex, or ethnicity.
