Vergara was one of the actors in the opening segment of the awards show, dishing about how her father advised her against a career in Hollywood.
“My father told me if I did anything artistic, I would look like a hooker,” the voluptuous brunette, 40, joked during the show at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium. “I told him, ‘With these huge boobs that I inherited from your mother, I already look like a hooker!'”
A highlight of the evening was when Dick Van Dyke received the 49th Annual Life Achievement Award. It was hard to believe that Van Dyke is 87 years old as he practically sprinted up the stairs to receive his award. Carl Reiner who was to have presented him the award was home sick with the flu; Mary Tyler Moore was also ano show due to illness and it was Alec Baldwin who presented the award to Van Dyke.
The late Lupe Ontiveros was among the “In Memoriam” taped tribute paid to members lost in the past year.
People magazine and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) hosted the Screen Actors Guild Post-Awards Gala for the 17th year.
