A Light in Dark Places: A Collection of Plays for Hope

Hollywood, CA – Performing artists at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre – Los Angeles aim to break down dangerous taboos by presenting the second annual A Light in Dark Places: A Collection of Plays for Hope, September 8-17, 2017 at the Stella Adler Theater in Hollywood. The show is a series of original short plays about suicide and prevention, which runs during National Suicide Prevention Week. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the nation’s largest non-profit dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

Stigma and silence surrounding the topic of suicide only make at-risk people more vulnerable.

A Light in Dark Places is a series of five short plays, directed by Rick Peters, Claudia Doumit, Cesar Di Bello, Austin Irendale and Maia Nikiphoroff.

Plays include:

Man in Cage with Friend, by Jim Kuenzer. – Two friends find themselves bullied by two common enemies but also find a way to keep going.

Man Behind the Matter, by Nicholas Jaqua – Phillip Manlow and Richard Einsenhower ponder about life and how to live it after the death of their boss, Bob Peterson.

Take me out, by Chip Bolcik. – A man and a teenager find themselves in a rooftop for different reasons and yet manage to connect with each other over a favorite past time.

Sinatra, by Blake Lewis –A curmudgeon, a yoga addict and a shy college kid will need to find common ground in order to make a vital decision.

Johari’s Window, by Kenneth Cosby. – Josey encounters two vaguely familiar characters that will help her see that hope is just around the corner.

“Suicide affects too many lives, and it doesn’t help that it is often considered too taboo to talk about,” said show producer Kelly O’Malley. Through A Light in Dark Places, we will use high-quality performing arts to open up discussion, build community and remind people that that they are not alone. It is okay to ask for help, and there is real hope for healing.”

A Light in Dark Places is co-produced by Bolivian actor Salim Aliaga
