Zoe Saldana and her partners, Jane Startz and Aida Bernal will option the mystery thriller Hell or High Water, Joy Castro’s debut novel which was released this year by Thomas Dunne Books and fast became a bestseller.
Saldana (Avatar, Colombiana) and her sister Cisely’s Saldana Productions will work with Jane Startz Productions and Bernal’s Spellbound Entertainment to bring the novel to the screen.
Hell or High Water follows New Orleans reporter Nola Cespedes as she is dragged into the city’s post-Katrina underworld on the trail of what she thinks will be her big scoop. Saldana and team are determined to turn it into a feature or perhaps it would be better positioned as a TV series.
Saldana next stars in the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness (J.J. Abrams), which premieres on May 17, 2013. She will also be seen in Blood Ties alongside Clive Owen and directed by Guillaume Canet.
Saldana was terrific in Colombiana and can toot her horn to the tune of two billion in box office from Avatar. It is time for her to own her own film franchise!
