William Levy can dance as he proved when he was one of the 2012 finalist on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. And, yes he can salsa, so when it was announced that he would be co-starring alongside Jada Pinkett-Smith in the new dance-themed flick Salsa — no big shocker here. I mean, the man can dance! And he is delicious eye candy… but will it work on the big screen with a slightly older woman as his partner? My guess is “yes”!
In Salsa, Pinkett-Smith is a woman who is at a crossroads in her life when she meets her hunky new salsa instructor (Levy) and he sweeps her off her feet in more ways than one! Behind the camera, Pinkett-Smith will both produce and star alongside Levy, who has been enjoying a steady rise since DWTS. The Cuban-American hunk is a hot commodity and the new spokesman for Pepsi NEXT along with starring in the hugely popular telenovela Triunfo del Amor.
If the film’s storyline and plot sound familiar, well it’s not the first time it’s been done. Remember Vanessa Williams and Latin music star Cheyenne? They teamed up for their version of a salsa flick back in 1998 in a film titled Dance With Me. This film succeeded in introducing Cheyenne to American mainstream audiences and sealed Williams’ reputation as one beautiful and sexy lady!
Pinkett-Smith is set to produce with Miguel Melendez for Overbrook Entertainment. Production is slated to begin first quarter of 2014. Directing and writing will be Amy Heckerling from Clueless fame.
Pinkett-Smith most recently produced The Secret Life Of Bees and Free Angela And All Political Prisoners, and she is exec producer of Queen Latifah’s CBS daytime talk show, which premieres September 16, 2013.
Levy recently wrapped two Lionsgate films: Addicted and Tyler Perry’s Single Moms Club. He’s currently shooting the remake of La Tormenta–called La Tempestad–for Univision. He’s managed by Gladys Gonzalez.
