Fans of Grammy award-winning singer/producer Romeo Santos got more than a sold out concert performance at the Staples Center last night, in Los Angeles, they were the first to learn that Santos will be working along side Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 7. Vin Diesel himself delivered the news on stage.
“I came here tonight, to tell you, that Romeo will be in Fast & Furious 7”, said Diesel alongside Romeo during the Los Angeles stop of his tour. Fans screamed in excitement as the two shook hands.
In addition to being a performer and producer, Santos is also a composer and was a key figure in popularizing Bachata, a from of music which originated in the Dominican Republic. Santos is the former lead singer of the Aventura whose 2002 song Obesesion and others topped the Billboard Latin charts and the top of charts in Europe. Not only will Santos bring his talent to the film, he also brings his huge social media following with over 2M Twitter followers and 19M Facebook fans.
The details on the role were not disclosed, but Santos joins the cast one of the biggest film franchises in film history. He will be part of the newcomers to the latest chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise, which includes Jason Statham and Kurt Russell. The late Paul Walker makes his final appearance in the film with footage shot before his death with the rest of the cast including Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Lucas Black.
Universal will release the James Wan directed sequel next year on April 10, 2015.
