Vicente Fernandez Reschedules Performances After Life-Saving Surgery


L.A. Performance November 29th at the Staples Center

On October 22nd, the renowned Mexican singer Vicente Fernández sent out a press release stating that he would have a medical checkup in the United States due to a lump detected in his liver.  Earlier this month singer Alejandro Fernandez, gave the audience the good news, his father had come through with flying color, after he underwent a robotic left hepatectomy, a surgical procedure to remove a portion of the liver. Making a fast recovery, Fernandez was discharged from the hospital on Nov. 13. and has already rescheduled some of his tour dates.  His L.A. concert will be on November 29th at the Staples Center (For more cities and dates CLICK HERE.)

The surgery had required the removal of a tumor that had been partially obstructing his left biliary duct. Traditional surgery would have required a large abdominal incision, possibly injuring the diaphragm and abdominal muscles and jeopardizing the artist’s long career.

The tumor was removed by the UI Health surgical team was led by Dr. Pier Cristoforo Giulianotti,  along with a cadre of Fernandez’s A Mexican-American medical team: Dr. Roberto Esquivel Ruano, Dr. Luis Rodriguez Gutierrez, Dr. Federico Mendoza Sanchez, Dr. José Oberholzer, Dr. Enrico Benedetti and Giulianotti, all worked together throughout Fernández’s diagnosis, surgery and recovery.

In October, just before the emergency surgery, Chicago city and state officials had presented Fernández with the keys to the city of Chicago and renamed a stretch of 26th Street in Little Village in his honor.
