The Nosotros Organization Annual Youth Mentorship Program

Youth Mentorship Program: A Four Weekend Course

How to Make A Short Film In Association With East LA Rising (Formerly known as the Boys and Girls of East LA)

Los Angeles, CA. – The late actor and advocate Ricardo Montalban’s paramount non-profit organization Nosotros—created in 1970 to help cultivate, develop, and showcase emerging and existing Latino talent in front of and behind the camera — launched its latest Annual Nosotros Youth Mentorship Program in association with East LA Rising (formerly the Boys and Girls Club of East LA) this past Saturday, September 8, 2018. The program will run for four consecutive weekends this month providing an array of experienced mentors from the entertainment industry that will help educate and guide young minds on the entire process of creating their own content through the process of making a short film – from development and writing, to shooting and editing their own projects. They will also have the opportunity to have their work showcased at a red carpet premiere.  The films will premiere at this year’s Nosotros 2nd Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament and Golden Eagle Awards dinner held on November 5, 2018 in the city of Montebello. The young filmmakers will get to walk the red carpet with this year’s Golden Eagle Recipients Emilio Rivera and Tony Plana.

“Nosotros is extremely honored and excited to begin this much-needed program for our future generation of filmmakers. We have actively been working in our Latino community and in the entertainment industry to help cultivate and support emerging Latino talent. We feel that investing in our youth who are the leaders of tomorrow and the next generation of content creators, is definitely the next step! And what a better opportunity to do so than to partner up with East LA Rising.” states Nosotros Vice-President, Reko Moreno

The students of the Nosotros Youth Mentorship Program will be mentored by established Latino entertainment professionals on a volunteer basis. These Latino actors, directors, writers, cinematographers, gaffers, editors, etc., will help guide the students through the process of creating their own projects. Some of the remarkable colleagues giving of their time include Imagen Award-winning actor/producer Jorge Diaz (The Long Road Home, Paranormal Activity), director/producer Fernando Lebrija (Netflix – #REALITYHIGH), actor/director and social media influencer Josh Leyva (Gaylo Returns), writer Joaquim F. Palma (East Los High) and writer/director Marco Diaz (award winning short film Abuelo) to name a few.

Each weekend will also be broken up into steps: Weekend 1 – Sept 8th: Writers Room – How to write a short film script. Weekend 2 – Sept 15th: Pre-production – How to prep for your shoot and cast actors. Weekend 3 – Sept 22th/23th: Shooting the film – How to shoot your short film. And Weekend 4 – Sept 29th: Editing and over all post production.  The 4 weekend program is made possible by supportive sponsors such as Final Draft, Emmy award winning director/producer Chris Olen Ray and Division Rentals.

“We are thrilled to bring this program to the children and young adults of East LA Rising because when asked what was needed, the response by the amazing staff of the organization was consistent, follow through.  So many times these kids get excited and inspired after a one day seminar or workshop but then ask the question ‘now what?’ We’ve created a hands on experience to let them learn the whole process.” shares Nosotros Secretary and Board Member, Natalia Ochoa

Through a series of ongoing events, workshops, and showcases, Nosotros, has aimed to continue to build a stronger network of Latino artists that not only succeed as individuals but as a whole – evolving into a thriving and influential part of the Hollywood community. The non-profit organization has strategically been working to eliminate the stereotypical images of Latinos in the media by encouraging roles, storylines, and projects that uplift the Latino American experience in addition to creating a bridge between artists and industry professionals such as casting directors, producers, executives, and content creators.
