Since 1985, the Imagen Awards has brought out the best and most talented portrayal of Latinos in television and film. In keeping up with the changing times, for the past couple of years, the organization has added a digital category where Best Web Series: Drama, Comedy, and Reality or Informational shows also compete. To say Latinos in entertainment are excited would be an understatement. Because we are super excited!

I can tell you that many of my star friends (men and women) are all on diets, exercising to get rid of those extra two pounds… as they get ready walk down a red carpet that leads them into a prestigious event that honors their work – portrayals of Latinos and Latino cultures – bringing our images to mainstream American audiences. You might think that like the Oscars and other award shows, it’s more about the glamorous gowns and designer tuxedos, but for Latinos, it’s about the respect of being recognized for their amazing contributions to the industry. The fact they get to dressed up is pretty cool… a bonus… the cherry on top of the tres leche cake.

Celebrating their 28th year, the Imagen Awards will air as a one-hour special on PBS SoCal with the date and time still to be announced. Latin Heat will keep you updated.

Helen Hernandez is the founder of The Imagen Foundation and under her leadership, the Imagen Awards have become one of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry. The awards exemplify the best of what Hollywood can produce in portraying the image of Latinos and Latino culture.

Imagen winners will be selected by an independent panel of entertainment industry executives and Latino community leaders and announced at the awards gala.

Join Latin Heat in congratulating all of the 2013 Imagen Awards nominees in the 20 categories:  Television, web shows (reality, informational, comedy), films (theatrical short or student films, documentary), actors, on-air advertising, and executives who have made a difference – we salute you and as they say in show business, break a leg!
