The NCLR ALMA Awards have been announced and there are big changes coming.  To begin with they will have a new home.  The ALMA Awards are moving to MSNBC and there will be a re-vamp of the program.  Details are forthcoming, but the one thing that is certain that the usual award categories will be re-vamped and some will disappear completely.

Executive producing this year’s ALMA Awards is award-winning producer Flavio Morales.  Morales who was SVP Programming & Production at mun2, is now Executive VP at BIG VIDA Entertainment, a sister company to Pink Sneakers Productions. BIG VIDA Entertainment is a full service production company focused on content for the US Latino market in English and Spanish.  The NCLR ALMA awards are mixing it up and we can’t wait to see

George Lopez Announces His New Family

George Lopez took to twitter on Sunday to announced his new family for his FX Comedy, Saint George, and its quite impressive.  Playing his uncle is Mr. Machete himself Danny Trejo; his overbearing mother is Oscar nominated actress Adriana Barraza; and Diana Maria Riva.  America’s First Family, he called them.

Saint George  will star Lopez as a divorced working class Mexican-American turned entrepreneur who also has to deal with a demanding ex-wife, an 11-year old son, and an overbearing mother who just move in with him. Lionsgate has ordered 10 episodes and if the ratings are good they will then commit to an additional 90-episode run.  FX is becoming the go to cable network when you want to see Latinos on TV…The Bridge, Sons of Anarchy, Anger Management, Louie and now Saint George…giving ABC (who has a record for hiring Latinos) some very stiff competition.

Eva Longoria Goes Into Therapy with her New Show

Eva Longoria is serious about her new role as producer.  Currently executive producing Devious Maids for Lifetime, the news came last Friday that she will be teaming up with Universal TV to produce a new sitcom based on life of sex therapist Laura Berman under her own UnbeliEVAble Entertainment production company.  With her Devious Maids rising to the top in the ratings, in spite of criticism from many of the Latino Bloggers and mainstream media, Longoria moves on to the next project.  We wish her much Devious Maids luck!

Cote de Pablo’s cover on Latina Magazine was released last week on the heels of the announcement that the NCIS star is leaving the show after having lent her talents to making this show the #1 rated show on television. So after eight year on the series, she was out.  CBS CEO Les Moonves said at the TCA that de Pablo was offered her a “lot of money” and that they did “everything humanly possible”.  Wondered if they tried offering her the same amount they offered the two other male leads to stay.  Hmmmm….

Jennifer Lopez’s Dilemma – Not!

Jennifer Lopez just about to sign on for one more season of American Idol. How she will squeeze in a whole season when she is slated to play a role she really wanted and now might conflict with American Idol?  She was a bit concerned, but being JLO, I am sure all parties involved will work hare to make it happen.  JLO will play one of the wives in the new bio-pix The 33, about the trapped miners in Chile She plays one of the wives of one of the Chilean miners.  Here is what went down when she heard on live radio that she had gotten the role, in what we now know was for The 33  (below).

Oh the Dilemma! A music competition show or a film role that might put her back on the “great Actress” list?  Because The 33 is literally an awesome who’s who’s of Latino Hollywood.  Directed by Patricia Riggen (Under the Same Moon), Jennifer Lopez, Antonio Banderas (no credits needed for these 2) and Rodrigo Santoro (300: The Rise of An Empire) and it is written by Oscar nominated screenwriter Jose Rivera (Motorcycle Diaries) and Mikko Alanne.  Produced by Robert Katz (Crash) Edward McGurn (Don’t Come Knocking) and Mike Medavoy (Black Swan) who lived in Chile from 1947 to 1957.  Why not both…that is what JLO is shooting for.

COOList Tidbits: Antonio Banderas has been cast in the Expendables 3….Louis C.K. who, once again a multiple Emmy Award nominee this year, is currently co-starring in Woody Allen’s lasted film Blue Jasmine….
