Selena Quintanilla Inducted into Texas Women’s Hall of Fame

San Antonio, TX – The late singing sensation Selena Quintanilla was officially inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame during a ceremony celebrated in Denton.

Remembered as an icon for her musical accomplishments, Selena joined the prestigious group of women honored for their significant contributions to the State of Texas. She is one of the first two honorees selected to join the hall posthumously.

“Texas is better and the future is brighter because Selena shattered stereotypes and expectations, proving the impossible is always possible,” said Governor Greg Abbott  at Texas Women’s University in Denton.

Emma Carter Browning, Susie Hitchcock-Hall, Ginger Kerrick and Renu Khator were also part of the five members, including Selena, who were recognized for their contributions to the State of  Texas.

On August 30th , the Madame Tussauds Hollywood museum immortalized the Latina icon with a wax figure where the Quintanilla family and crowds of fans gathered to unveil the figure valued at about $350,000

The Governor’s Commission for Women established the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in 1984 to honor the Lone Star State’s most accomplished women. Past inductees have included first ladies, teachers, astronauts and athletes.

Selena was murdered in 1995 at the age of 23 right on the cusp of making the cross-over into the general market.
