Scarface Celebrates 28 Year With DVD Release and Reunion

On Tuesday August 23, a reunion of the principal cast members of the classic 1983 film Scarface was held at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles that included Al Pacino, Robert Loggia, F. Murray Abraham, Steven Bauer, Angel Salazar and Pepe Serna. The reunion celebrated the September 7, Blu-Ray- Hi Def DVD release of the controversial film that was originally released theatrically 28 years ago to mixed critical reception but is now considered one of the most influential films of all time.

The burgeoning Hip hop-Rap cultural artists embraced Scarface and through the years it has become a popular culture touchstone that now spans several generations. Directed by Brian De Palmaand written by Oliver Stone, Scarface is the story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana who finds the American dream in a criminal empire of wealth, power and passion that goes terribly awry. The film gave important roles to many Latino actors among them, Pepe Serna. In Scarface , Serna plays Angel, Tony Montana’s doomed refugee buddy who finds his demise at the end of a chainsaw in a Miami motel room. With a long career in films, stage and television, Serna’s credits include Car Wash, American Me, The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez and The Black Dahlia. The actor is currently touring a one man show and is conducting motivational workshops in schools across the country.
