Los Angeles, CA — Plaza De La Raza has partnered with Martin Zitter’s, Royal Ringball®, to present Earth Week Fest featuring a special live performance of In the Realm of the Maya: The Rising of Royal Ringball, which will be the culmination of a week-long celebration in honor of Mother Earth. The one-time presentation (the first act of a developing arena show tour) will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018, 6PM to 8PM at Plaza de La Raza located at 3540 N. Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA 90031.
“With the recent success of Oscar-winning film Coco, which struck a nerve with most general audiences, especially the youngest of movie-goers,” explained Zitter, “our Royal Ringball story is sure to captivate audiences and inspire change.”
Earth Week Fest is a free, open to the public event, perfect for the entire family. The festivities kick off at 2PM with a flurry of activities including Live Music by EZ Tiger and The Furious Seasons, Music & Poetry by Gloria Arjona, Comedy by Las Tres Chicanas, DJ Will Alvarez, Luchadores(Mexican Lucha Libre Wrestlers), Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, Henna Tattoo, Giveaways, Vendor Booths and Food Trucks.
At 6PM, guests are invited to a preview of the film Ulama by Roberto Rochin, followed by a live stage performance of In the Realm of the Maya: The Rising of Royal Ringball – The game of Gods and Kings. This Earth Week Fest presentation rings the alarm on the dangers of ignoring Mother Earth’s warnings. Today our Earth is in peril with the depletion of our natural resources, much like the Maya civilization when it came to its final end. And just like the youth of today are standing up for their world, the Maya youth took matters into their own hands and challenged the Rain God Chaac Ha to a game of Pok-a-Tok to save their world.
“In the Realm of the Maya, delivers a powerful message about increasing awareness and hearing Mother Earth’s cry for help to start taking action to save it,” stated producer, Bel Hernandez-Castillo. “Coco’s Producer, Darla K. Anderson’s sentiment that, ‘Art can connect and change the world,’ comes to mind.”
The stage performance of In the Realm of the Maya on April 28th is directed by award-winning actor/director Enrique Castillo (Weeds, Blood In Blood Out) whose play Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor received an Imagen Award, with a cast of seasoned and dynamic actors, this production will draw audiences into The Realm of the Maya.
According to Zitter and Maya historians, “In the Realm of the Maya is a cautionary tale to our present civilization,” says Zitter. “The Maya Gods are angry at the depletion of Mother Earth’s resources and threaten to end the Maya Civilization. The youth step up to challenge the Gods with a win-or-lose proposition, a game of Pok-a-Tok, the royal ball game, or their lives.”
