Mike Ott’s award-winning indie, Lake Los Angeles will be competing at the Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City in the Narrative Feature category. Urbanworld takes place from September 17th to 21st. The award-winning festival favorite Lake Los Angeles will be screened on, Saturday, September 30, 3014, 3:00 PM, at the AMC 34th Street Theater.

At the recent Las Vegas Film Festival, Lake Los Angeles won three coveted awards: Roberto Sanchez, Best Actor. Michael Gioulakis, Best Cinematography. Mike Ott, Best Feature.

Lake Los Angeles is the story of Francisco (Roberto Sanchez) a middle-aged Cuban man who works odd construction jobs, and makes money on the side by providing his home as a holding house for illegal immigrants who manage to cross the border from Mexico into the US. Cecilia (Johanna Trujillo), a 10-year-old Mexican girl ends up at Francisco’s place waiting for her father to pick her up. When Cecilia’s father fails to deliver the money, the young girl is forced to escape into the desert with only her vast imagination to keep her company. Eloy Mendez delivers an equally impressive performance as the unscrupulous human trafficker aka the ‘coyote.’

Stunning performances by both Trujillo and Sanchez, along with a well-written script that plays out in a captivating landscape, make this an extraordinary movie”- Film Pulse

Lake Los Angeles is Mike Ott’s third installment of his Antelope Valley Desert Trilogy (Littlerock, Pearblossom Hwy), which outline the complications and adversities immigrants who manage to survive crossing the border must face in order to stay alive – both mentally and physically.

With the inclusion of Latino films, the Urbanworld Film Festival fills the void left by the New York International Latino Film Festival. According to the NY Daily News, “The variety of international films and programming targeting the Latino community during the 18th annual Urbanworld Film Festival is both prominent and inspiring.”

Stay tuned for more Lake Los Angeles announcements as the film and cast tours the states and globe heading to Miami, Oregon, Denver, France, Iceland, Poland and Turkey.
