CBS President and CEO Les Moonves has his heart set in broadcasting the Golden Globes… and in order for this to happen, he’ll have to make a bid for Dick Clark Productions (DCP) who control the show… but the hurdle is that DCP is contracted with NBC until 2018.
Moonves not one to let any thing get in his way, according to Reuters, is considering a bid for DCP owned by Red Zone Capital. But CBS faces 17 potential buyers who have already received DCP’s financial info from The Raine Group, which is handling the sales process. Reuters reports that 4 to 6 bidders, including CBS, have now moved on to a second round of bidding. DCP is priced at $350 million… Mark Shapiro, DCP CEO and Daniel Snyder, Washington Redskins owner and chairman of DCP.

Should CBS succeed, will the network do to bring on more diversity?
“Having worked with CBS on diversity for the last seven years,” said Rick Najera, director of CBS Comedy Diversity Showcase. “I have seen the network being more and more committed to diversity and the Golden Globes adds a international flavor to that commitment.”
At CBS, Najera has had sixteen series regulars and two cast members join Saturday Night live. Recently, he spoke at the World Bank and IMF in Washington DC on diversity.
Ryan Seacrest (American Idol host) and Miramax owner Colony Capital, private equity firm Guggenheim Partners previously were reported bidders. DCP also produces the American Music Awards, the Miss Universe Pageant, the New York’s Rockin’ Event broadcast, and the Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance. CBS also owns the rights to the Grammy Awards and The People’s Choice Awards.
