Redford Doc “Watershed” Exposes Threats on Colorado River

New Sunset Cinema Hosts Aug. 29th Benefit Premiere

Santa Monica, CA – As part of a screening tour to raise water conservation awareness, The Redford Center announced the August 19th benefit premiere of its new documentar Watershed in Los Angeles in partnership with regional environmental group Heal the Bay.

The organizations are teaming to host the event as a “sneak preview” of Sundance Cinemas’ new state-of-the-art West Hollywood movie theater facility, which opens to the general public August 31st.

Narrated by Robert Redford and directed by award-winning filmmaker Mark Decena of Kontent Films, Watershed exposes the catastrophic threats to the already taxed Colorado River and features inspiring character vignettes of those embracing a new water ethic. The film and subsequent community-driven screenings are made to engage, inform, and inspire Americans to conserve water.

“If we see the Colorado River as just a river, we are overlooking a natural engine that powers both our economy and our environment,” said Robert Redford. “We want this film to raise awareness of the idea that this river is the canary in the coalmine. If business Colorado can continue to serve us.”

A diverse mix of regional leaders, political decision-makers and eco-conscious celebrities will attend the Los Angeles premiere at Sundance Sunset Cinema. A limited number of tickets to the benefit are also now available to supporters of Heal the Bay and general public.

Following the film, producer Jamie Redford and advocate Alexandra Cousteau will be on hand to participate in a roundtable discussion about water issues facing Southern California. Heal the Bay board member and actress Sharon Lawrence will moderate the panel.

Tickets are $40 for general admission; $3- for Heal the Bay members. For event details and to purchase tickets please visit http://sundancemovienight.eventbrite.com

All proceeds from the benefit will support the work of Heal the Bay, which conducts many volunteer-driven programs to keep Southern California oceans, rivers and neighborhoods clean and healthy.

Attendees will enjoy complimentary beer, wine and hors d’ oeuvres before viewing the documenter. Free appetizers, popcorn, soda and three hours of parking are also included in admission.

Editor’s note: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. It is important to support film projects such as Watershed.
