“Create Option C: May Journey With Cancer” One Woman’s Courageous Journey to Overcome Cancer
Milwuakee, WI – The LatinHeat Media Institute (LHMI) Indie Film Screening Series, is proud to present Lourdes Colon’s award-winning documentary, Create Option C: My Journey With Cancer on September 10, 2014 in Milwaukee, WI, at the historic Oriental Theater.
LHMI, a nonprofit organization established the Indie Film Screening Series as a way to give Latino Indie filmmakers an opportunity to have their films seen by community. Although most films are screened at film festival, their audience is limited to the cities and venues these festivals are in. The LHMI Indie Film Screening Series looks to bridge that gap and get these films seen by more community audiences. The films selected for the LHMI Indie Film Screening Series are films with cultural relevance and/or that deal with social issues important to the underserved communities.
Actress Lourdes Colon was at the height of her career in 2010 when she received the ultimate death sentence—she was diagnosed with stage 4, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It was as if a nuclear bomb had exploded within her and engulfed every inch of her body.
Colon’s unique approach to overcome the deadly disease is chronicled in the groundbreaking film, Create Option C: My Journey With Cancer. Colon’s life-threatening challenge—turned her into a researcher, nutritionist, spiritual guru and then a filmmaker. She had always wondered what her contribution to humanity would be and now she knew. She would communicate all that she was learning by filming each step of her battle as she forewent traditional western cancer treatments and instead adopted a treatment that included alternative medicine, organic nutritional and spiritual lifestyle. She would bare it all while filming the fight that she would either win or lose.
“Option C is to do the research, take the fear out of the equation and find out what works best for your body to cure its cancer,” Colon explained.
“We are proud to have the opportunity to present such a significant film,” said LHMI, Executive Director Bel Hernandez, “What Lourdes has been able to capture with this documentary has such a powerful message.”
Option C: My Journey With Cancer was made with a little help from her friends: Executive Producer, Esai Morales, Actor/Activist; and Producers Yeniffer Behrens, Chris La Voy, Dewayne Cox, and Daniel Rojo. Through their collaboration with Colon, they have delivered a formidable documentary.
“Lourdes’ story is not only about hope, courage and inspiration,” said Mary Chuy, LHMI, Director, East Coast Film Screenings, and the power behind this Milwaukee screening, “but it is also educates and as a result we’ve been able to attract important sponsors to help our organization screen this documentary in Milwaukee. We are deeply grateful to sponsors: Bel Air Cantina, La Causa, United Airlines, Agencia de Viajes, The Pfister Hotel, Angel Up Foundation and our community groups supporters.”
