Veteran character actor Pepe Serna (Man From Reno, Scarface, American Me, Car Wash) recently wrapped a pivotal role as Mr. Cardenas in Oscar winning Alexander Payne’s Downsizing, joining Matt Damon, Kristen Wing, Christoph Waltz and Alec Baldwin in the Paramount film that is shooting in Toronto.
Downsizing is a social satire that centers on an Omaha man who joins the throngs of people undergoing a new process that reduces people to a tiny fraction of their size before moving to one of the many communities of small people that are sprouting up around the world.
“It’s the smallest part I’ve ever had, four inches to be exact.” remarked Serna when he learned he had been cast in the role.
Serna completed a co-starring role opposite Oscar nominee Damien Bichir and Eva Longoria in Universal’s Lowriders that premiered at this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival. After an almost fifty year career, Serna is one of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences class of 2016 diversity Invitees.
Serna recently guest starred in an episode of a yet untitled Hulu anthology series, in which he plays a Disneyesque animator. Dave Boyle, who helmed Serna’s starring role in the acclaimed murder thriller feature film Man From Reno, directed the episode.
Serna is repped by Jeffrey Leavitt and managed by Active Management.
