Padres Contra El Cancer Hosts Bone Marrow Drive For two Infants

Swab For Hope” Swab for Hope and give the gift of life

Los Angeles, CA. –PADRES Contra El Cáncer (PADRES), a nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of life for children with cancer and their families, will host a bone marrow drive on April 26th at Universal City Nissan at 3550 Cahuenga Blvd., W in Studio City, CA. in conjunction with Be the Match. The drive will benefit Baby J and Jack, two infant patients in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to save their lives. For more information ecasas@IAmHOPE.org or call 800.269.4186 ext. 224.

Baby J was hospitalized and diagnosed at just three weeks of age with a very rare blood disorder and syndrome. Since then he has spent the majority of his young life hospitalized and on treatment. Because of this rare syndrome and blood disease, Baby J requires a bone marrow donor to save his life. Baby J is now eight months old and has become part of the PADRES family. PADRES has taken the lead in advocating for his health and survival needs.

Jack is a 15 month old twin and has had a very tough cancer battle. He was diagnosed with a dual diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Mixed Lineage Leukemia (MLL) at 14 months of age. Jack has received multiple aggressive treatments all that have failed fighting off the cancer cells. His only hope now is to receive a bone marrow transplant. Jack’s parents and twin brother unfortunately are not a match for him.

Both Baby J and Jack are currently in need of a life-saving bone marrow donor. Because both infants are of mixed ethnicity, it makes it even more difficult to find a bone marrow donor match. PADRES is reaching out to the community at large in particular the Latino and Caucasian community between the ages of 18 and 44 to

join us at our ‘Swab for HOPE’ bone marrow drive. Seventy percent of patients do not have a donor in their family and depend on someone unrelated to be the donor. To become a registered donor is fast, simple and pain-free and only requires an inner cheek swab to collect the sample for the registry
