If you watched the Oscar’s last night, you know that Lupe Ontiveros’ name was left out of the Memorial segment. This is a glaring omission and inexcusable on behalf of the Academy.
Lupe Ontiveros was a consumate professional and portrayed in many roles throughout her career. Her film credits include: As Good As It Gets, Real Women Have Curves, Luminarias, among many others. Her TV credits run the gamut from Desperate Housewives, Rob, Los Americans and just about every other TV show that has ever aired on American TV’s! And, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, if you don’t remember who she is, well, she was probably the maid in most of the major productions ever produced in Hollywood during the past 25 years!
Sadly, we lost Lupe last July after losing her battle against cancer.
Other oversights include that of not including the beloved Andy Griffith and Alex Karas! People who watch TV also go to the movies!
We received hundreds of messages via Social Media and the following from one very upset industry professional:
Dear Friends and Latino Leaders:
In case you didn’t watch the Oscars last night, I want to inform you that they forgot to include Lupe Ontiveros in their memorial tribute. This is very upsetting and sad, and I believe that we need to demand for a public apology for such a huge and hurtful oversight. Please help to get this to their attention, and if you have contacts with large organizations, pasen la voz, as this does hurt, and affect many of us. Lupe without a doubt was an icon to many of us! Thank you
