Los Angeles, CA – At two nomination events held simultaneously at the London West Hollywood Hotel in Beverly Hills and the Mercedes Haus in Buenos Aires, the 5 nominees in each of the categories of the 3rd Annual Premios Platino of Iberoamerican Cinema were announced.
Embrace of the Serpent, directed by Ciro Guerra and Ixcanul, director Jayro Bustamante, nominated in 8 categories each, The Club, directed by Pablo Larraín and The Clan, director Pablo Trapero, nominated in 6 categories each, are the productions that have the most nominations going into the award ceremony on July 24 at the Punta del Este Conference Centre, Uruguay.
Alfredo Castro, for El club; Damián Alcázar, for Magallanes; Guillermo Francella, for El clan; Javier Cámara, for Truman and Ricardo Darín, for Truman are the nominees for the Platino for Best Actor.
Antonia Zegers, for El club; Dolores Fonzi, for Paulina; Elena Anaya, for La memoria del agua; Inma Cuesta, for La novia, and Penelope Cruz, for Ma Ma are the nominees for the Platino for Best Actress.
The nominees for the Platino for Best Animated Feature Film: Atrapa la bandera, director Enrique Gato; Don Gato 2: El inicio de la pandilla, by Andrés Couturier; El americano, by Ricardo Arnaiz and Mike Kunkel; El secreto de Amila, by Gorka Vázquez and Un gallo con muchos huevos, by Gabriel Riva Palacio Alatriste and Rodolfo Riva Palacio Alatriste.
The nominees in the category Best Documentary Feature Film are: Allende mi abuelo Allende, directed by Marcia Tambutti Allende; Chicas nuevas 24 horas, directed by Mabel Lozano; El botón de nácar, by Patricio Guzmán, La once, by Maite Alberdi and The Propaganda Game, director Álvaro Longoria.
The nominees for the Premio Platino for the Best Iberoamerican Debut Feature Film are: 600 Millas, by Gabriel Ripstein; El desconocido, by Dani de la Torre; El patrón: radiografía de un crimen, by Sebastián Schindel; Ixcanul, by Jayro Bustamante and Magallanes, by Salvador del Solar.
During the press conference, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) received a Premio Platino for their contribution to Iberoamerican Cinema. Lorenzo Soria, President of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was honored to receive this prestigious Award. Rocio Ayuso accepted the Award during the press event on behalf of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Juan Carlos Arciniegas, Ambassador of Premios Platino, Elvi Cano and Raul Vazquez both from Premios Platino and Gonzalo Elvira (FIPCA), underlined the importance of the Platinos as the highest profile event in cinema in Spanish and Portuguese languages, having generated a lot of media and public attention worldwide during their last award gala. Further testimony to the importance of the Platinos was the presence of prolific and well known figures in the audio-visual and cinematic arts in Iberoamerica during the nomination event.
The nominations for the 2016 Premios Platino were announced by a diverse group of Iberoamerican talent, including Adrian Nunez, Amaury Nolasco, Carla Vila, Celinés Toribio, Edward James Olmos, Federico Álvarez, Goya Toledo, Javier Fuentes León, Marlon Moreno, Patricia de León, Patricia Velasquez, Reynaldo Pacheco and Yareli Arizmendi.
During the nomination event, iconic Mexican TV host and actor Adal Ramones was announced as host of the 3rd Annual Premios Platino of Iberoamerican Cinema. He will join the two previously announced hosts, the Uruguayan actress, singer and designer Natalia Oreiro and the Spanish actor, director, scriptwriter and producer Santiago Segura.
The event will be broadcast in more than 50 countries by TNT worldwide and in addition by major national TV channels throughout Iberoamerica.
The 3rd Annual Premios Platino has again set a new record of 826 qualifying films, of which 26 are nominated, representing 11 of the 23 Iberoamerican countries.
