NHMC’s MediaCon Exploring The Future of Latinos in Media & Entertainment


Second Annual Confab Focuses on TV, Film and  Digital Media

Pasadena, CA – The National Hispanic Media Coalition(NHMC) will hold it 2nd Annual MediaCon to be held on June 20 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, CA.  A powerful gathering of  industry executives, celebrity talent and media insiders to discuss trends and emerging issues in the entertainment and media industry and the role Latinos are playing now and in the future of media. At the center of supporting this conversation are their sponsors Univision, Comcast-NBC Universal, Entravision, Edison International, NuvoTV, CBS Corporation, Nielsen, Fox Audience Strategy and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Discussing new ways to succeed in en evolving media industry will be distinguished leaders including Vincent Cordero, EVP and General Manager of Fox Deportes; Inez Gonzalez, Executive Vice President of NHMC; Harold Feld, Senior Vice President of Public Knowledge; and Santiago Pozo, Founder and CEO of Arenas Group, with 25 years developing and executing Hispanic targeted campaign strategies.

Designed to provide timely information through its keynotes speeches which will address the state of Latinos as consumers, in media, advertising and film and television.  The thought-provoking panels will discuss advertisers and how they are courting the Latino consumer;  alternative media distribution platforms and established film and TV platforms.  Attendees will include TV, cable, and film executives, as well as agents, managers, producers, writers, and directors.

This year MediaCon brings back one of its most popular sessions from last year “Empowering Latinas in Entertainment” which this year features Giselle Fernandez, Emmy award winning journalist; Gina Rodriguez, rising star of Filly Brown; Sandra Condito, Consultant/Producer whose credits include Grindhouse and Planet Terror; and moderator Ivette Rodriguez, President of American Entertainment Media, the agency of record for the Hispanic market for filmmaker Robert Rodriguez

We are excited to put on MediaCon for a second year” said Alex Nogales, President and CEO of NHMC. “The 2010 census combined with the 2012 Presidential election has made it clear that the Latino political and purchasing power are a force to be reckoned with. The purpose of MediaCon is to bring media and entertainment players together under one roof to discuss what is happening in the industry and how to use that information to further Latino interests.”

This year MediaCon shines an especially bright light on web content  with two panels “WebContent:  Creating,Monetizing and Distribution, Part I and II” featuring Carlos Portugal, Creator/director/executive producer, East Los High, the first ever Latino-themed TV show on the internet; Rodrigo Mazon, Content Acquisition and GM at Hulu Latino; Katie Elmore Mota, East Los High, Executive Producer; Julie Grob, Executive Producer of the webseries East Willy B; Giselle Achecar creator and host of online series Eco-Rico; and Susan Cleary, VP and General Counsel of the Independent Film and Television Alliance; and moderator of the Content Producers panel Bel Hernandez, CEO of Latin Heat Media and publisher of the first, and only, entertainment trade publication focused on Latinos in Hollywood.

The “Power Brokers:  Hollywood Agents and Managers” session will include a who’s who of Hollywood dealmakers including William Morris Endeavor agent and key player in the development of emerging markets, Eric Rovner; Todd Christopher, Head of Alternative Television Packaging and Digital Entertainment at Gersh Agency; April King, Agent for ICM Partners; Mark Schulman, Manager with 3Arts whose clients include Mario Lopez, Tyra Banks and Nancy O’Dell.

The impressive list ofor the “Running the Show – on TV” session includes moderator Luisa Leschin, Co-Executive Producer of the George Lopez show; Alfredo Barrios, Executive Producer of Burn Notice; Ed Bernero, Executive Producer of Criminal Minds; and Pam Veasey, Executive Producer and Showrunner of CSI:NY. 

The “Advertisers: Courting the Latino Consumer” panel includes moderator and  Clio, Effie and AME award winner Carl Kravetz, CEO of Vida y Salud and author of the AAAA’s “A Client’s Guide to Hispanic Marketing” ; Armando Azarloza, President of the Axis Agency in charge of cultural strategy for Clorox, Kohl’s and Absolut Vodka amongst others.
