Los Angeles, CA – Netflix has ordered 13 half-hour episodes of the untitled dark comedy from Mexican filmmaker Manolo Caro (Elvira I’ll Give You My Life But I’m Using It, Tales of an Immoral Couple).
Caro’s new Spanish-language comedy series revolves around a dysfunctional Mexican family full of secrets. In the story, the father, and owner of a successful flower business suddenly finds out that his longtime mistress has passed away. He decides to bring his children by his mistress into his his household to live alongside his current wife and children, who of course had no idea of the patriarch’s affair.
Shot in $4K, the original series will be filmed in Mexico early next year, with distribution set across all of its 190 Netflix territories.
“Manolo is the only filmmaker in Mexico to have been part of the top 10 highest grossing movies over the last three consecutive years,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix’s vp international originals.
“I’ve always wanted to work with Netflix. I think that being on this digital platform is a huge responsibility because it is broadcasted all over the world. I am so excited for this challenge”, commented Manolo Caro. Rafael Ley and Stacy Perskie (Mozart in the Jungle) will produce.
The streaming service adds Caro’s project to its original production slate filmed in Latin American including Club de Cuervos, Narcos, Ingobernable (Kate del Castillo), 3%, Edha, and O Matador.
