A balanced and diverse Hollywood with accurate representation of the today’s U.S. population is what all Latino film and television writers aspire. Writer, Producer, Director, Nancy De Los Santos has always created with one objective: Challenge stereotypes and create a new perception by writing for projects that reflect a balanced Latino reality. As a result, her work helps to expand Latino viewership on English-language networks.

A Latina Dedicated to Creating Honest & Realistic Images on TV & Film

De Los Santos co-produced The Paley Center’s Tribute to Hispanic Achievements in Television, a live New York City event, with Peter Castro, former People en Español, editor in chief. Luis Reyes, Hispanics In Hollywood, served as consultant. The evening’s program was curated with the assistance and counsel of the Paley Center’s advisory organization, the National Council of La Raza and its CEO and President Janet Murgia. The Paley Center for Media brought together luminaries, icons, and pioneers for a first-of-its-kind event to commemorate Latino trailblazers and celebrate today’s champions in the television industry. The event also heralded the expansion of the Paley Center for Media’s Hispanic Collection in their famed television archive. The complete event may be viewed at the Paley Center Beverly Hills museum.

“The Paley Center’s tribute honored seven decades of  Latino images and programs on TV,” said De Los Santos. “It is such a pleasure to work with many of my Latino heroes: Lucie Arnaz, Jose Diaz-Balart, Emilio & Gloria Estefan, America Ferrera, Luis Guzman, Mario “Don Francisco” Kreutzberger, Maria Elena Salinas, George Lopez, my friends and colleagues Edward James Olmos and Jimmy Smits.”

A writer for Hulu’s East Los High, De Los Santos was thrilled when the show was once again nominated for two Daytime EMMY Awards at the recent 43rd Annual Daytime EMMY® Awards, held in Los Angeles. For De Los Santos, who has already garnered two previous EMMY nominations, this is a reflection of the fruits of her labor.

“I’m so honored to be part of a compelling show that showcases young Latino talent and presents storylines that are rewarded with high ratings and accolades.” said De Los Santos.

“I always strived to accurately represent the Latino culture of this country,” avowed De Los Santos. “With roughly 54 million Latino people here, it would be a gross negligence not to present truthful programming. Our stories and our unique perspective offer a new view for all forms of storytelling.”

Nancy, one of the handful of successful Latina screenwriters in Hollywood, began her career as a producer for the Chicago-based movie review show, At The Movies, for Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, which led her to executive producing on an ABC affiliate. Hollywood noticed and soon De Los Santos was heading west.

One of her first credits was as Associate Producer for the feature films Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos, and My Family, starring Jimmy Smits and Esai Morales. Nancy has written for The Disney Channel, Lifetime, and Showtime. A crowning achievement was as co-writer, co-producer and co-director of HBO CInemax documentary, The Bronze Screen: 100 Years of the Latino Image in Hollywood Cinema, with Susan Racho and Alberto Dominguez.

Nancy De Los Santos is an integral part of a groundbreaking group of writers who are helping to change the image of Latinos and people of color in television and film.

“Having more Latino voices in the writing room is truly the best way to tap into the $1.6 trillion Latino consumer buying power.”
