Austin, TX – Robert Rodriguez is back in Los Angeles to direct the season finale of the spy drama Matador which is set to air October 7, at 9pm ET/PT.  The series, which premiered July 15th to mixed reviews was lauded by New York Magazine calling it “ludicrously entertaining”  while the entertainment trade Variety dismissed this freshman series saying “More marketable than watchable, Matador is worth sidestepping.”  But in the end it will be the audience that will finally decide if this series is a winner or a loser and that has yet to be determined

Rodriguez, network chairman, founder and executive producer of the original series, directed the series premiere of the soccer-infused drama from award-winning writer/producer Roberto Orci (Mission Impossible 3, Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man 2) which in a show of confidence was picked up for a second season days before the series premiered.

Rodriquez has been very vocal about the aim of the El Rey Network, which is to represent the diverse face of America.  The international cast of Matador does just that with Latino American Gabriel Luna (NCIS: Los Angeles, Prison Break) in the title role of Tony “Matador” Bravo; Emmy-nominated, English born of Spanish background Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code, Spider Man 2) the billionaire owner of the LA Riot franchise and a member of an elite group of powerful global players; American born and bred Nicky Whelan (Left Behind, Chosen, The Wedding Ringer) Tony’s analytical and beautiful control agent and Neil Hopkins (Bones, True Blood) Annie’s brilliant but awkward partner; and Australian actor Tanc Sade (The Gilmore Girls, 90210)  an English striker for the LA Riot who is past his prime.
