Argentinean super-tenor Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci in the Metropolitan Opera’s current production set to be broadcast live at a cinema near you on Saturday, April 25, 2015 and Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Mr. Álvarez, who in less than 10 years has risen to the ranks of opera uber-sensation, is today recognized as one of the world’s most gifted lyric tenors. With a voice that easily mixes masculinity with lyricism, the world’s most discriminating opera aficionados sell out is performances from Mexico City to Milan.
A fine actor with the perfect blend of drama and subtlety, the Cordoba born Marcelo feels his uninterrupted trajectory to stardom was simply “destiny” – as he puts it. He never planned on becoming a professional singer – and didn’t consider opera as a viable outlet for his innate musical talents until age 30. (He mostly sang in pubs for free drinks and to entertain his friends with his imitation of the Bee Gees.)
Today, he’s been selected by the Metropolitan Opera to star in its live broadcasts of their reimagined productions of two of opera’s most demanding one-acts presented as one evening of grand theatre. This is a performance you don’t want to miss and don’t have to miss as you can see Mr. Álvarez’s tour de force dual-performance in Cavalerria Rusticana and Pagliacci (on Saturday, April 25, 2015 and Wednesday, April 29, 2015) at selected cinemas nationwide by visiting the MET LIVE!
