El público latino has long enjoyed the many gifts of Jane the Virgin’s dashing dad Jaime Camil from his early years as a Mexican stage, film, television, and recording star. And if like so many, you’re a fan, this Friday through Sunday night (July 28, 29 & 30) Southland audiences will be able to see the multitalentoso Mr. Camil live on-stage in this year’s Hollywood Bowl summer musical, Mamma Mia!

Cleverly incorporating the songs of ABBA, it is the world’s most popular jukebox musical where Jaime joins the all-star cast playing Sam Carmichael. Unsuspecting Sam is invited to a remote Greek island wedding being thrown by his former flame, hipster hotelier Donna (country recording star, Jennifer Nettles) who is preparing for the marriage of her young daughter, Sofie (Dove Cameron, Disney’s Liv and Maddie) to Sky (Corbin Blue, High School Musical). Raised fatherless, it’s Sophie who invited Sam and two other of her mother’s past liaisons in hopes of figuring out which of the three men is her bio-dad and having him escort her down the aisle on her big day. Things don’t go as planned so mayhem and musical comedy ensue – all to ABBA’s eternal hits.
With an operatically trained voice, Camil has often said that his favorite venue is the stage. In 2005, he played Nestor Castillo in the Broadway-bound musical The Mambo Kings. His award-winning work in Mexican musical theater includes the role of Bernardo in West Side Story (2004), Captain Hook in Peter Pan (2007), and the Genie in Aladdin (2008). In the summer of 2016, Jaime received glowing notices as Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago on Broadway. But Angelinos don’t have to fly to Manhattan or Mexico City to see this dynamic performer singing ABBA’s greatest hits because “I Do, I Do, I Do” have a recommendation: “Chiquitita” simply “Take a Chance” and spend a little “Money, Money, Money,” and click on following website and say “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” tickets to Jaime Camil starring in Mamma Mia! at the Hollywood Bowl. (Order soon because “The Winner Takes it All.”)
