A sigh or relief that despite a $2 million lawsuit filed by Overnight Productions (owners of the action film Machete) against Robert Rodriguez’s production company, Machete Kills Again, the sequel will open on September 13, 2013.
Overnight Productions allege in their lawsuit that Rodriguez’s company stifled them on tax credits and lying about the budget of the sequel Machete Kills Again.
Woohoo, badass Danny Trejo is back! Open Road Films will release Machete Kills Again, Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to his gut-bloody 2010 hit.
So what’s this Machete about? If you can believe it… the president of the United States recruits Machete to take down a revolutionary and an arms dealer hell bent on destroying the world.
With Trejo, returning in reprising their roles are Michele Rodriguez and Jessica Alba (Lordy, help us all!), while Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Lady Gaga (making her movie debut), Alexa Vega,Vanessa Hudgens, and Charlie Sheen and others have joined the cast.

For a few months no one knew if the lawsuit would stall the film’s opening and even be strangled by it. But the good news is that the film will go on and the justice system will figure out who and how to spread the millions in profits. It’s not the first time Machete franchise has had to fight off lawsuits before. In February, writer/actress Yvonne DeLa Rosa filed legal action against Machete director Ethan Maniquis claming he had solicited her for ideas back in 2005 and then used those ideas without paying, according to a TMZ report. She sued Maniquis and co-director Robert Rodriguez for breach of contract.
The original Machete had a production budget of just $10 million turned around and grossed over $44 million worldwide, according
to Box Office Mojo. Now, that’s what we call a lot moola!
