Starring Chris Kattan, Bryan McClure and Joe Nunez, With Edy Ganem, Enrique Castillo & Renee Victor
LUX III Pictures, LLC in collaboration with Migrant Filmworks, Inc. began production on their comedy feature film In Other Words this past weekend on July 7th. The cast is headlined by Bryan McClure (Atlanta, Hawaii Five-O), Chris Kattan (The Middle, SNL), Joe Nunez (Elena de Avalor) and Rishi Arya (Lethal Weapon, Jane the Virgin). Producing for Migrant Filmworks are husband and wife team Patrick C. Perez (Lola’s Love Shack) and Cristina Nava (East Los High, Lola’s Love Shack), with Perez directing from a script written by Nava.
“As we embark upon our second feature comedy, we want to give thanks to the vision of executive producer Ruben Islas who tasked us with creating this project and many more to come under our new joint banner, Lux III Pictures,” said producer/director Perez on behalf of the production team. On the question as to why a comedy, Perez responded, “We believe that comedy has an important role to play in today’s world, bringing people together through laughter, pointing out our common failings and poking fun at injustice.”

Kris Kattan
Joe Nunez
Described as a cross between Like Water for Chocolate and Sideways, this romantic comedy was inspired by the wine county in Baja California’s Valle de Guadalupe using the surroundings of vineyards and wineries to tell the story, complemented with culinary chefs from all over the world, a Grand Dame and romantic vintners.
Natasha Esca
Edy Ganem
The story revolves around tech geek True (McClure) who is courting tech investor Maximillion Woods (Kattan) for his matchmaking app, when he gets matched by his own app to Angelica, the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen (played by Natasha Esca, La Prima and Dos Lagos TV Series). The problem is she doesn’t speak English. Now True must travel with his buddies to the wine country in Baja California to prove that his algorithm isn’t screwy. He hires Karina, an aspiring chef, played by Edy Ganem (Created Equal, Devious Maids) to help him learn Spanish. Now he must not only overcome the language barrier, but deal with his own incessant phobias and insecurities if he’s going to get the girl and land the deal of a lifetime. Joe Nunez plays True’s attorney, the peace maker as some crazy binds ensue.
Enrique Castillo
Renee Victor
The Grand Dame of the Regina’s Encuentro vineyard, where it all takes place is owned by it’s namesake, played by the incomparable Renee Victor (Coco, Vida, Weeds); with veteran actor Enrique Castillo (Beatriz At Dinner, Weeds, Blood In Blood Out) plays Sabi, the Vintner, the person overseeing the vineyards and the winemaking process.
Perez and Nava launched Migrant Filmworks in 2011, then partnered with Grandave Productions to form LUXIII PICTURES, with a mission, producing cutting edge content for the burgeoning U.S. Latino market. They are also founding members of the collective of mid career US based filmmakers called Cinematicas, dedicated to advancing, accelerating, and amplifying Latino American storytelling.
The story itself is uncommon for Latinos because of the roles they are playing. They are usually playing the stereotypes Hollywood dishes out. The production brings together a very diverse and talented cast. “Cristina and I are so proud of the incredible team of artists who have assembled to bring In Other Words to reality. There’s hard work ahead, but making comedy is fun!” Let the fun begin.
