Latino Film Screenings Series Bridges Gap By Taking Films to More Community Audiences

Hollywood, CA — The LatinHeat Media Institute (LHMI), a non-profit entertainment industry organization announced today the establishment of the Latino Indie Film Screening Series to bring films to more community audiences who don’t necessarily attend film festivals around the country. The films selected for the LHMI series are films with cultural relevance and/or that deal with social issues to the underserved communities.

The next LHMI indie film screening will be of the award-winning and groundbreaking documentary Create Option C: My Journey With Cancer which will take place on September 10, 2014 in Milwaukee, WI. The film chronicles actress Lourdes Colon’s journey when on the peak of her TV and film career is diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her challenging and courageous story talks about each step of her disease, fighting it and about curing cancer through alternative medicine.  Mary Chuy LHMI’s Events Coordinator in Milwaukee is handling sponsorship inquiries for this upcoming screening.

Recent indie films screened by LHMI include Juan Bueno’s Amorous Pancho Villa, Oscar Torre’s Pretty Rosebud, and Fanny Veliz’s Homebound.

LHMI, was co-founded in 2013 by Bel Hernandez, President/CEO of Latin Heat Media, LLC; Elia Esparza, PR/marketing/communications professional; Actor/writer/director Enrique Castillo; and Fernando Antonio Gomez, marketing executive in broadcast, cable television and new media. The mission of LHMI is to serve as a cohesive industry-leading organization that through multiple platforms and strategic alliances informs, educates, connects, and empowers Latinos in media.

“Our objective is for LHMI to complement other Latino entertainment organizations in areas still not fulfilling the many needs of Latinos seeking opportunities in film, television and new media,” said LHMI President Bel Hernandez.

In addition to LHMI’s Latino Film Screening Series, the organization has also partnered with the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) to form the Latino Premiere Club, a membership organization. The Latino Premiere Club goal is to ensure Latinos are fairly and accurately included in film and television by providing a forum directly connecting Latino opinions to upcoming projects that tell Latino stories and/or employ Latinos in front and behind the camera.
