Los Angeles, CA — LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, in partnership with PBS SoCal’s Indie Lens Pop-Up series and the Dolores Huerta Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to creating networks of healthy, organized communities pursuing social justice through systematic and structural transformation, will host a special screening of Dolores on Saturday, March 17th with a FREE screening outdoor event including a musical performance by Louie Cruz Beltran. Additionally, a VIP fundraiser reception in celebration of the Dolores Huerta Foundation’s 15th Anniversary will precede the screening at 5:00pm, 4th Floor. Dolores, a documentary on the life of Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the first farm workers union with César Chávez, is a civil rights icon who tirelessly leads the fight for racial and labor justice, becoming one of the most defiant feminists in modern times. Even so, Huerta’s enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized, lacking the name recognition of her close collaborator, Chávez. This film aims to set the record straight by chronicling Huerta’s evolution as a fearless young woman confronting Teamsters on violent picket lines to the activist nearly beaten to death by police. It provides an unflinching look at the barriers faced by women and people of color within the very communities they’re fighting. The film is directed by Peter Bratt.
