Burbank, CA — Latin music superstar Juanes is stepping up his presence on English language media in the USA. With millions of fans around the world, Grammy winning recording artist Juanes who has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide will be expanding his fan base. Although most U.S. mainstream audiences are not familiar with him that is about to change.
Juanes recently made an appearance on the CW’s Jane the Virgin as the recurring character Elliot Lantana, a famous record producer. Although he has appeared in several U.S. indie films in the U.S. as himself (Gregory Nava’s Bordertown, Goal II: Living The Dream) and recorded a duet with Tony Bennett, his role in Jane the Virgin and his latest announced participation as a songwriter and performer in Disney’s McFarland, USA will surely raise his visibility in the U.S.
This past weekend Juanes shot the music video for the original song titled Juntos (Together) written by him specifically for Disney’s McFarland, USA, which he recorded for the end title track of the movie. The film stars Kevin Costner (who also produces) and Maria Bello alongside of an all Latino cast. The day after learning he is once again a current GRAMMY® nominee, Juanes traveled to McFarland, California, to film the music video where hundreds of excited fans came out to get a glimpse of the chart-topping music star.
“I was thrilled when Disney invited me to be part of this very special project,” explains Juanes. “Watching the film left me inspired about the power of teamwork, tenacity and faith, and I’m honored to now be part of the ‘McFarland, USA’ team.”

McFarland, USA is based on the 1987 true story, Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school in McFarland, USA and forms a cross-country team after realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, due to their farmworker lifestyle. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.
The list of Latino talent in impressive with Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz, Carlos Pratts, Ramiro Rodriguez, Danny Mora, Valente Rodriguez, Vanessa Martinez, Chris Ellis and Diana Maria Riva. It is written by Christopher Cleveland, Bettina Gilois and Grant Thompson, and story by Cleveland & Gilois. Producing are Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi, with Mario Iscovich and Mary Martin serving as executive producers. McFarland, USA is set to release February 20, 2015.
