Las Vegas, NV – Telemundo Las Vegas / KBLR today announced that Alejandra Ortiz has been named News Co-Anchor for Noticiero Telemundo Las Vegas, which airs weekdays at 5:30 PM, 6 PM and 11 PM. Ortiz, whose first day with the station is today, joins a team of journalists who deliver the local news and information to Spanish-language viewers. Ortiz will make her on-air debut on Monday, March 28.
“Alejandra is an experienced journalist with a proven track record of reporting and delivering breaking news and information to Spanish-language audiences and we’re excited she’s joining our news team and returning to Telemundo,” said Ramiro Lopez, President and General Manager, Telemundo Las Vegas. “We have a responsibility to deliver the news and information that our viewers want so they can make the decisions that will help their families flourish and stay safe. This sense of duty drives our day-to-day work and we’re glad that Alejandra shares this mission with us and cannot wait for our viewers to meet her.”
“It’s very exciting and humbling to return to the Telemundo family as a News Anchor for Telemundo Las Vegas after Telemundo offered me my first opportunity to work in broadcast journalism as a network news intern seven years ago,” said Ortiz. “I am proud to be a part of the Latino community in Nevada and cannot wait to meet all of our viewers and make Las Vegas my new home.”
Ortiz joins Telemundo Las Vegas after working for CM& — the Colombian news network that was launched in the early 1990’s — for the past four years. Most recently, she worked as an anchor for the network’s national and international newscasts. In this role, Ortiz had the opportunity to lead the network’s coverage of the 2014 presidential elections, as well as other high-profile Colombian electoral races and news-making events. Prior to this, Ortiz worked at various other Colombian television networks, newspapers, magazines, and radio stations as a producer, reporter, scriptwriter and radio host. Ortiz is tri-lingual and fluent in Spanish, English and French and has hosted, produced and scripted television shows in all three languages.
Ortiz earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. She has also served as a contributor to news outlets including CNN en Español. She has relocated from Colombia and resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
