ROLDAN

Actor José Roldan Jr

Father Forgive Me For I Have Sinned is a coming-of-age autobiographical solo piece written and performed by José Roldan which tells the story of a Latino boy who grew up in the South Bronx of New York City during the 1980’s and ‘90’s.

In a moving performance, José straddles the inner struggles of being a gay man while defying negative cultural stereotypes about his sexual identity. He channels some of his most memorable family members including his sister, a freestyle drama queen from the Bronx, his Bruja Tia (Auntie Witchie-poo) who has mastered the art of how to keep a man, his quintessentially macho father, as well as his off-the-wall fire-spitting Puerto Rican mother. José gives you his NYC Latino version of All In The Family sprinkled with South Bronx soul and riotous clashes, which all takes place in a family living room. Ultimately, the show ends on an inspirational high as José finally finds self- acceptance in the midst of his inner struggle.

José Roldan is an award-winning actor and playwright. He is a recipient of a number of awards including Best Actor and Best Solo Production in the 2014 Paul Michael’s The Network One Act Festival and Outstanding Solo Performance at the 2013 Hispanic Organization for Latin Actors annual award gala. José completed his studies in the arts at Lehman College, where he wrote his award-winning solo show. After completing his B.A., José was accepted into a two-year intensive Meisner Technique program, at the Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio in Hollywood, California.
