“My mom died 20 years ago and recently I was thinking about how I would honor her this year,” recalled Bermudez. “I searched for songs and they were all so sad. Nothing captured her essence and how celebratory she embraced and lived her life. Then I had an epiphany and invited my musician and Hollywood friends to join me.”
The video was a one-day shoot, directed by Bermudez in his first directing project. “Five days after my big AHA moment,” said Bermudez, “we pulled it all together—once the word got out, everyone called back—they wanted to participate.”
Marabina Jaimes
Marabina Jaimes who was one of the first to sign on, and was so excited she offered her home and beautiful backyard as the party set. “I loved collaborating with talented percussionist and friend, Jorge Bermudez and Ingrid Oliu,” said Jaimes. “Thrilled to have helped realize this vision: a tribute to all ‘Mamas’ and the people who love them! It was a unique joy to dance and laugh with my 91-year-old Mama [Maria Lane]. Mothers Day Medley, available on iTunes, is a little labor of love to help brighten every Mother’s Day!”
Actress Ingrid Oliu was equally excited. “Jorge’s invitation to participate in his music video was bittersweet,” recalled Oliu. “I lost my mother to cancer in November. This was a wonderful way to celebrate her. The song is contagious. I enjoyed dancing and singing to my mom in heaven.”
