The Awards Gala is LACLJ’s largest fundraising event of the year and is attended by approximately 400 judges, attorneys, social service providers, and community leaders who support public interest work on behalf of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.

“The work of the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice to fight for the rights of immigrant survivors of domestic and sexual violence is more important now than ever before,” stated Matt Strieker, Executive Director, Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice. “Anti-immigrant policies have created wide-spread fear and anxiety in the community; LACLJ plays a critical role in empowering individuals to know how to exercise their rights within the legal system.”

This year, LACLJ will honor Lisa Vidal (Being Mary Jane) for her work as a spokesperson for creating awareness and raising consciousness about domestic violence in Latino communities.  Vidal is also one of the founding members of the Time’s Up movement, a movement that addresses systemic inequality and injustice in the workplace that have kept women from reaching their full potential.

Jaime Camil, best known for his role as Rogelio De La Vega, the charming telenovela star on the hit TV show Jane the Virgin, will receive the Cultural Ambassador Award for his extraordinary achievements in bridging the gap between the Mexican and US markets and audiences and for bringing positive representations of Latinos to the US entertainment world.

“We are excited to honor Lisa Vidal and Jaime Camil at LACLJ’s upcoming Gala and to have them help shine a light on the important work LACLJ does,” said Philip Sánchez, Member Board of Directors, LACLJ. “Both Lisa and Jaime are great examples of talented and powerful Latinos who are trying to raise up the community – a community from which we need even more engagement and support!” Also being recognized at the Awards Gala are Pro Bono Partner of the Year recipient Irell & Manella LLP and Corporation of the Year recipient Delta Airlines, Inc.

Each of these honorees has in some shape or form contributed to helping L.A.-based LACLJ fulfill its mission to fight for the rights of vulnerable families and advocate for a more just legal system. The organization’s vision is a strong community where families are safe, stable and free from injustice. LACLJ represents vulnerable women, primarily Latinas, providing these clients with high-quality and trauma-informed legal representation and education.
