For Yvette Yates it all started with the short Nina Quebrada in 2008 where she played a runaway who had been sold into sex slavery. Her performance turned heads and for the next three years she worked on ten short film, that is until she graduated into features in Gabriela Taglivini’s indie Without Men where she
starred alongside Eva Longoria and a literal who’s who of Latino Hollywood talent. This weekend she stars alongside Gina Carano, Cam Gigandet, Luis Guzman, Treat Williams, Amaury Nolasco, and Danny Trejo in In the Blood, which opens in theaters, VOD and on Demand on Friday, April 4th. With three more films on slate, there seems to be no stopping Yates.
In this indie action drama directed by John Stockwell Yates plays nurse Leta who work at the island hospital. Her role is pivotal to the story, which revolves around former mixed martial arts star Gina Carano’ character, a newlywed who travels to the Caribbean for her honeymoon only to lose her husband under suspicious circumstances, which set her on a mission of vengeance.
The year started off with the January release of Free Ride, which had Yates co-starring along with Ana Paquin (True Blood, X-Men). The film also be releases on DVD on April 15th; in February Sorority Party Massacre, in which she played a frightening sorority girl, released on DVD.
Yates is thankful for how her career has played out so far. “It’s humbling and rewarding,” she explains. “Every room I step into, every set I work on, every person I collaborate with in front of and behind the camera, I know I’m fortunate to have found and be doing what I’m most passionate about.”

Beginning her career in production, she has been able to parlay that into a learning experience for her acting career. “I feel that having worked myself in production first gave me a firm foundation and understanding of the business,” she told us. “I’m humbled yet confident in my work, and I keep honing it with every experience which I do not take lightly.
Yates currently finds herself in a flurry of interviews, photo shoots and red carpet premieres as she gets ready for the release of In the Blood. She recently did a photo shoot for Maxim and is hitting the talk show circuit.
Going from short films, to features to independent films, her work has certainly paid off with each new role she takes on.
With her next film Inherent Vice Yates now enters the echelon of the A-List movies. Working alongside a stellar ensemble cast that included Joaquin Phoenix, Jena Malone, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Maya Rudolph, and Martin Short . Inherent Vice which will be directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood) from his adapted script of Thomas Pynchon’s book of the same name. The film revolves around an inept, pot-smoking private detective who investigates the case of a kidnapped girl, who also happens to be one of his ex-girlfriends. It is one of the most anticipated films of 2014.
“It’s has been a journey and I embrace it,” Yates reflected. “I always remember where I came from, and it started with shorts that propelled into feature films, it’s definitely surreal but feels just right where I’m supposed to be.”
